HMS Challenger - a nineteenth-century British steam and sail corvette, serving in the Royal Navy in 1858-1878.She participated in a research expedition around the world, which took place in 1872-1876, considered the first oceanographic expedition in history.During the expedition, led by John Murray and Charles Wyville Thomson, he discoveredMid-Atlantic Ridge and Rów Marianski.
The ship was built at the Woolwich Dockyard, near London.
Its construction cost 76 272 pounds.
In honor of the ship was called the Challenger Deep, which is the lowest-located explored place on Earth, as well as the American space shuttle Challenger.
