Line icebreakers are designed primarily for crushing and crushing ice and elimination of ice blockages as well as removal of crushed ice in order to prevent the occurrence of congestion flooding. These units are also used to free the bridge pillars from ice, crush ice sheets in inland ports and other ancillary tasks. Modern and well-equipped new icebreakers will improve flood safety in the lower Oder section. Ultimately, they are to replace two nearly 50-year-old units. Ocelot and Tarpan will replace units in the RZGW Szczecin fleet that have been involved in the icebreaking action for half a century. They will be intended primarily for crushing and breaking ice and elimination of water blockages, as well as removal of crushed ice in order to prevent the occurrence of congestion floods.
